Hello my fellow biatches, long time no blog - what's happening with you lot?

Anyway, hope you guys are doing great wherever you are. Just wanted to share some pics taken on my recent visit to Prague - it's a beautiful city! I went with Tanya and it was a girls only weekend, so you can imagine what 2 very SOBER young ladies could get up to when they're left to their own devices.

Sorry lah to put all the pics in 1 collage - LAZY lah (just click on the collage and you can see a HUGE version of it, I kid you not). Plus it's like close to midnight here in London and I've just habised my kerja and have to iron 5 work shirts for the week...buggerrr... (aiyoh, how has my life ended up like this...boring-nya...)

thought i share with you girls the view from my new table in the office - moved up from level 10 (where I was facing a white wall and in a narrow corridor) to level 12, right next to the office bar. Friday nights can get pretty wild...

it's a good view for when you are stressed (plus the beer and wine is kept under the bartop too) ... overlooks Wooloomooloo, a near where I live.

now the pic below is steph cuddling up in my living room, after a night out with me this recent weekend. we had a variety of vodkas that night and went to bed around 3am. Alright... that's all for now.

My Very FIRST Blog!!

Hey gals!! This is quite momentous, my first blog, technology is OBVIOUSLY not my thing. Anyways how's everyone? Life been a little crazy for me down under, been all about work for the past few months. My Vietnam trip seems ages ago. Thanks Jan for taking the liberty to blog the pics for me! Ok Need some help here, I did attempt to put in comments for the pics, but I don't know how to do that! I went to 'edit blog' but 'the pics' came out as a bunch of gibberish computer jargons- so what do I do?

So a bit of an update of life down under- work is the bulk of it. Been looking after a soccer team, hence the no life and working every weekend. But its not all bad, I really don't mind watching soccer, oops ok ok as Suan would be screaming at me now, football i mean. Besides there are a few hot South Americans for me to perv at, heh heh. Home front, still annoying Lala-Mings as psycho flatmate, but Lala moving into her cool pad in the city in a few weeks (opposite a really yummy French cafe!). She better tah pau coffee for me, in a bowl of course! As for me gonna keep staying in the burbs as me work in the burbs. Am in the midst of hopefully buying a lil loft apartment where I am now ( will put some pics up soon, I'm such a dill, got my camera but forgot my cables! ). My latest bit of fun was hand gliding for my birthday. Stephen decided that running of a cliff would make a pretty funky b day present, so funky that he won't do it with me! And count on me to do it on one of the gustiest days in Sydney, gale force winds. Have to admit, it really wasnt as scary as I thought it would be, as long as heights ain't an issue. Flew up to 900 ft, quite tranquil really, must be cool being a bird! hehe..(once again pics will follow soon! NO CABLE NO CABLE!)

Alrighty chicky babes, will blog once again with my camera cable! And I'm freezing my tits off (Suan ah brings back memories)in Sydney, yes yes a total lightweight compared to you gals in UK and the States. Most unpleasant but nothing some comfort food can't fix!

Going lobster fishing

I spent 2 lovely weeks with my aunt in Rockport. The holiday was great as we weren't scurrying around, making life hectic as we usually do on those 'we-have-to-see-every-major-tourist-sight' holidays. We chose to stay in Rockport to be near my aunt and to enjoy this part of New England properly. The weather was great (sunny and warm) mostly, and at these times, we took the opportunity to either hit the beach, or join my aunt's neighbour lobsta fishing. Now that I am back at work, I am totally missing Rockport!!

C'est Paris

It's been a while I admit..but I am posting now nonetheless...

So this is where I am living now - the City of Lights (where commas are full stops, and yes the keyboards are weird..but the desserts are to die for!) And it's been both challenging and interesting at the same time - a life-changing privilege is what I consider it..on many levels.

This is the front of a 16th century (I think!) building I call home. This is where a French noble family, obviously associated to the royal family used to live. I have a small little studio flat, which used to be servants quarters back in the days.

But I am proud to call the landmark below my neighbour.

And I also just found out ex-President Chirac stays just a few doors down now!

However, thanks to notorious French Red Tape and their silly immigration rules which I still fail to understand, I am due to move soon...

Work's at a very nice area near Champs Elysee - Monceau where there is a park nearby. When the weather is good, that's where lunch is - as the Parisians do, in the sun..

I suppose I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves..have loads but I am a little impatient to wait for all of them to load....so I'll do my best. I hope everyone else is well....C'est tout..au revoir

hari ini saya stress sikit... oleh tu, saya akan ber-blog dalam bahasa malaysiaku yang tidak begitu canggih. dan juga sejak berpindah ke australia, saya rasa lebih bangga kerana tahu bahasa yang lain daripada bahasa inggeris.

apa khabar, kawan-kawan? saya harap semua rasa gembira dan tidak segila sepertiku. ada banyak kerja sekarang. saya tahu kerana bos-bos saya 'confident' bahawa saya boleh buat kerja yang agak baik, mereka bagi lebih kerja untuk buat... tetapi saya juga tidak tahu macam mana nak beritahu mereka, "NO!". dan saya biasa buat semua kerja semasa kerja di kl (one leg kick!!), saya tak biasa nak bagi orang lain buat. so it's really my own bloody fault sometimes... sigh.

anyways... bagaimana semua pelan kahwinan, suan? jangan stress sangat ya... nanti kelihatan letih dalam gambar kahwinan. saya harap saya akan dapat pulang bagi hari perkahwinanmu, tetapi tiket penerbangan saya adalah untuk satu tahun (1-year open ticket la) dan hari yang terakhir adalah Januari 4 2008!!!

Papanicolaou test

Suan says maybe this is not a good topic to be blogging about. I agree. With Suan that is. But, i also know that most of you guys (if you anything like me) have not had this test yet! If that is so, you (like me) are 8 years too late. Doc said you were suppose to start at 21 (some even tell me at age 18), and it should be an annual test - especially if your family has a history of cancer genes.

Anyway, i went for my first test (8 years too late) day before yesterday. And btw, i hate doctors.. of any kind. (I dont really hate them, but stay away from them as much as i could). My gyny (not sure if that is how its spelled) is a Vietnamese lady in her mid-30s. (I insisted on a female doc). The test really wasnt as bad as ppl describe it to be. The actual test took about 2 minutes.. tops! The doc did talk alot though. And, when the nurse, who did pre-consultation, realized it was my first, she mentioned they have special instruments (aka not so big and not metal). So, do ask for it.

Also, the latest (not so breaking) news is that there is a vaccine for cervical cancer called Gardisil. And, btw, 300,000 women around the world each year die of cervical caner... so, don't take this lightly and go to the test. :)

Dearest biatches,

Since I was in the spirit of posting pics of my travels, I realised I forgot to post these, taken when we went to Valencia. We decided to go see a bull fight because we never really knew what it was all about. It's such a cruel sport! They taunt the poor bull and shove these sharp (and I suspect, hooked) sticks into his upper boy until he has lost enough blood and is hurt before the main bullfighter then shoves a long sword through the suffering bull a few times (i.e he was cheating all along because the bull isn't in a condition to really fight back) before properly killing it. I was grimacing and making too much noise & left early after I realised what it was all about! eek. What was MORE surprising was that the crowd were cheering and clapping after the bull died. What did the poor thing do wrong to deserve such a cruel death??? So say "NO!" to bullfights ok, my fellow biatches.

Plates plates and more plates in the Grand Bazaar - a 'shopping mall' built by the first Sultan of the Ottoman Empire in 1461. The guy was a clever man.

I got back from Istanbul after having spent a long weekend there - Monday was a Bank Holiday, so the man suggested I fly over and visit. Istanbul is such a beautiful city and with so much history. I enjoyed myself, gallavanting to the many historical sites. The man had to work most of my visit, but I liked walking around the city and just absorbing the beauty of the mosques and palaces (not to mention, I enjoyed the heat whilst London was wet & cold!).

Here are some pics which I took - I visited the Aya Sofya (the only church & mosque in the world), the Topkapi and Dolmabahce Palaces (the monarchs of the Ottoman empire lived in Topkapi and then moved to Dolmabahce in the 19th century), the Blue Mosque and underground cisterns (where apparently they filmed the scene where Bond was rowing amongst marble columns in 'From Russia with Love'). Also went shopping at the Grand Bazaar ( which was build by the first Sultan of the Ottoman empire in 1481 - there are more than 4000 shops in there and it was more a labyrinth than anything else!!) and Spice Market, where I bought LOADS of saffron for only £2. Would've cost about £100 over here for all that saffron I bought, I reckon!! The local hand-painted plates are also so pretty - various designs & colours which would put Wedgewood to shame. The man & I also managed to get onto a cruise on the Bospurus river, which separates Europe & Asia - we went all the way to the mouth of the Black Sea! The cruise didn't take that long - only about an hour an a half in total, but it was really nice to see the sights from the boat.

Apparently, my mom's dad's forefathers are from Turkey. That may explain my strong sense of 'coming home'...more pics to come! Picassa only allows 4 per blog. What a draggggg.

Hi Beautiful Bitches,

Well there are many reasons why this lil bitch couldn't post her updates. First of course she is forever blur, keep forgetting the username and password. Er suan , I still can't get in the wedding website. I always have to trial and error a couple of times, some days I am defeated - when I totally could'nt log in. hehe. Other days, are light bulby days. I have super good memory or super good instincts. Like today, I get to log in and Post something. Second reason, is because I have sporadic internet access. I was at one point stealing from my KL neighbour's wireless, but it was too slow to post, so I only borrow it's line when I'm desperate to view or send a mucho important e-mail. I'm actually also now"tau tau" typing this email at my new desktop at work. Sssh. Lucky bank never block this link. hehe.

So Ok .. get on with life ya. For those who didn't know, or I haven't updated, I've moved down to Sunny Singapura since Jan, but officially only started living and working since April 2nd. So it was quite a bitch, prior to getting a job, I have to go to and fro, while job hunting on my social visit pass. Usually it is for 14 days, but when I finally got my J.O.B, they decided so kindly to extend me to 30 days of social visit. Damn. But now I have this white card thing call the employment pass. and have no need for it. Why is it always like that? When you need something, it's never available to you, when you have no use of it, ah then it's offered to you.
This can be applied to men and shoes.

Anyhoot, I'm working in Standard Chartered Bank, in the Organisational Learning Department. And no, we're not part of H.R, so it's good, we aren't monitored by them.
All I can say is I really like my colleagues. They are goof balls. I have pictures to prove it yeah.

Last week, they gave me a welcome lunch on monday, as that's what the pictures are.
I already did a social movie thing on tuesday with them . Watched 300, wierd to be seeing nude sex scenes with the boss. It's like I'm a little kid again, and it' s really awkward. But I suppose after going through the sex, blood, and violence Induction programme, I must say we have bonded a little better. After all, we came out of war alive together. Huha!
Ok i'm rambling. I have actually more funny stories to tell. But ah I shall save it another time.

Anyway, just a quick one to say HI, hope you guys are doing well, wherever you are! I got to meet up with Jian in Paris over the weekend - went to support a few of my loonie mates who were running in the Paris Marathon. Jian tagged along to what was the 'great chase' - trying to get to different points of the route via the Paris Metro to show some support to my mates. It was a good way to see so much of Paris (all 26 miles of it) in a day!

Ok... still not too used to blogging regularly, unlike Suan, Al and Val...

Ohmygawd! Can't believe we have a felon in out midst... Val how's the taxi rides been lately? Think you and your men (Jim B, Jack D and Johnnie W) need some time apart. Tell them, 'it's me, not you'. Take care of yourself nonetheless.

Ok updates... Steph is off to Vietnam for 2 weeks in a few days. Congrats to Esta who got her job in Singapore. And I too am now working full time with the agency i was freelancing with. Wan Chin is planning to visit in June.

Random info... I hear Shauna is moving back to Sydney end of this year. Her bro got married. Oh, I bumped into Ee Kee and her hubby. She looks good. Saw them in Ikea.

Apart from that you guys should catch the new Brit movie, 'Hot Fuzz'. Funny stuff. Not as good as 'Sean of the Dead' (same guys did this new movie), but it's much better than most of the American comedies lately.

Char Chee Yok

So. What the happen to all you good for nothings? No blogs AT ALL! Good for nothings.. i swear!!! Lucky I on holiday and I good mood.. I am in such a good mood, I will actually share a recipe with you (Haven't cooked this in AGES and as you know... i am the agak-agak cook). This dish takes quite a bit of work and time lah. It's a traditional Hakka dish (Janice you might know it) and its called "Char-Chee-Yok". It's basically fried pork braised with the black fungus.

First you marinate Pork (must be the 3-layer pork with skin) with eggs, 5-spice powder, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, pepper, chinese rice wine and lots of flour. Must marinate for at least 2 to 3 hours ok?

Then you deep fry the pork until it turns golden brown. (I hate this frying btw..stupid oil pops all over.. !@#$!) Remove pork from oil into a pot. Fill the pot with water until it covers the pork. Add soy sauce to taste and a little dark soy sauce for color. Then turn on fire and let it braise til soft. About 20 minutes before the dish is ready, add black fungus (which comes dry and should be re-hydrated by soaking it in water). After adding fungus, let it braise for another 20 minutes.
VOILA!!!!! Very very bad for you. But Very Very yummy. This is a once a year dish..mostly for CNY only :)

Going back home is a FOOD Event. Before going back to KL, I usually prepare a list of all the food that needs to be savored. On the top of my list is always Hokkien Mee, Cantonese Mee, Fried Keow Teow and on and on.... Here are some highlights (so far) of my gastronomic delights.

Ok. So I didnt get to eat this big guy. But I did get to eat his much younger brother (suckling pig). The big guy cost RM600 ok!! His younger brother was much more succulent anyway. We bought a pair of suckling pigs for the 8th Day celebration in Petaling Street. Very yummies.

Whats a trip to Petaling Street without buying the famous 4-eye-boy roast duck. The duck-chopper looked vicious with a butchers knife.. and the fact that he never speaks to you.. not even look up at you to acknowledge you... The duck on the other hand was juicy inside and crisp on the outside... soo good.

Nasi Lemak is on my list.. just not very high on the list. I got a chance to eat this with beef rendang and sotong.. and fried egg. The kopi-o-ping was the perfect drink to go with it! Cool and Sweet versus Hot and Spicy.

This is the first on my list.. not just hokkien mee, but THE Hokkien Mee. This was in a shop near what used to be Bulatan Edinburgh in KL. Aiyor.. with extra chee yau chah summore. And the loh-mee was very good oso.. but sadly, thats not on my list. :P

Hi guys,

Well, I complain about the weather every winter, but this is the first time Cornell actually declared a snow-day and cancelled classes. It hasn't stopped snowing for 24 hours. I'm snowed in--unless I feel like shovelling.

The front of my house (I'm on the ground floor)--there's another apartment above me. Some poor sod's car is in the same predicament as me.

The street I live on. Of course, I'm the only idiot who's actually out on the street.

Yep, it's windy as hell in my apt. i HAVE very strange stories to tell you. miss paranoia here keeps thinking there are ppl knocking on her door, and building structure is worst off than malaysia. it is made out of paper. so the self conscious me will keep in down during toilet time. (I KNOW TMIright)

i'm kinda rush for time, cause moi does not have internet connection either, and internet connection is not easily assessible like malaysia. All the coffee places require you to have an account. So right now is the rare chance i get to quickly type away at obrien's.

I have been in sing for a month now. come this weekend. Went on several interviews. Going for a second round with standard chartered bank in about an hour's time - A job I look forward to have.

Also went for one already this morning at eurokars.They carry saab, rolls royce, porshe, mini cooper, and others. Hmm i wonder if they give out 90% discount to company staff, then i can get my dream cayenne, porshe suv. hehe. fat chance lar.

wELL NOt temping like Lara, but I did get a mini contract work out of one interview I went for. So thank god for that, otherwise I really don't know how to pay my ultra high rent. It is the worst time to move here, cause the real estate market has generally just raised 30% past dec , some instances even up to 70%. Unbelievable.

As for the rest of you, whether you are filling up time as jazz singer, or painting your toe nails, please email me ya. hehe.

rumour has it that singaporean men are cuter.. .err still waiting for them to show up. Shopping at orchard road has lost its meaning, and taking the MRT is no longer noble. I miss KL lifestyle, where I can drive like a mad woman and get away with it, as you all should know. The food too. hehe. but at least good for the waist line.

In terms of geographically where i am located, I am on the east west green line on the MRT system. About 2 stops away from changi airport. To my lurvely lay-deeeess, saw the blog... but can't work on it, because i only have internet connection at the office - currently temping at M&C Saatchi Sydney, and i should not use it for personal use of that kind (temp worker la...). first let me clear the air up on suan's slanderous status reports about steph and i... aiyah... before that... CONGRATULATIONS TO SUANNY POOH!!!! So happy for you... and if you name your first kid allison, and turn out like her... the rest of us will be there to go, "i told you so"..... :) steph is not singing in some jazz lounge somewhere.... she actually works nights at a sweat shop packaging goods imported from china... pays better than singing (about 2 cents more per hour)... this has further caused her to not sleep at all... but her eyes are still small, so she constantly looks stoned. as for me, i am continuing my life as a slave to the industry that lives on the soul of depraved humans - advertising. temping for a month at a big agency (man, they do things differently around here). life in sydney has been interesting and scary. constantly missing the comfort of kl, yet very grateful that i am here in sydney. still grasping the accent, train system and all things aussie. once internet connection is installed in the apartment (waited nearly 3 weeks now for it), will update the blog with pics and stuff. until later girls, big shout out again to the bride to be! will be back in kl in nov... so january might be able to try a quick trip back to see suan in her cheongsam (no! you cant wear jeans!!!). until next time.... mings

Suan is deliberately trying to get me to post by posting slander about me! I have never even heard of the name "John Barrowman"!!! (Anyway, even if I did and forgot all about it, I must say--that photo shows that I have remarkably good taste.)

So, I don't think I congratulated Suan properly on her engagement. My reaction was an inappropriate "WHOAH," and then I had to run off to campus. So CONGRATULATIONS, Suan!!!!!!!!

However...uh...*cringe* I may not be able to make the wedding. Don't kill me, please. I'm soooooooo sorry, but it's complicated: this August to next June is my last academic year, and we're supposed to go on the job market at the same time as finishing our dissertations (so that we transition seamlessly from grad school to an academic position). Anyway, the interviews for jobs take place on December 27-30 during a conference. After that, they notify you whether you're shortlisted and one is brought back for campus visits (where you're introduced to the faculty, to students, and have to deliver a lecture) to see if they really like you. Campus visits take place in January, so it's kinda hard for me to leave the country at this time. I guess my point is that if I have interviews and campus visits, then I may not be able to make it. But if no one wants to hire me and I get zero interviews, as in nada, nil, none, kosong (judging by the pathetic state of the academic job market, it's MORE than likely), then I'll definitely be on the plane back for our grand reunion.
